Good Progress

Charlie's color looks better this morning, and the medical staff says he's making good progress. He had a fever again last night, but it's down this morning.

Today's nurse, Susan Hertz, on hearing that Charlie did nineteen laps of the hallway yesterday (fourteen equals a mile), suggested that a balance of activity and rest is important. He seems to have taken her advice to heart, as he promptly got back in bed and went to sleep.

News from the horse racing front has not been good: Sacred Music finished fifth in her race at Longchamps this morning, and it's raining hard here, so W.C. Jones' race at Belmont Park this afternoon will probably be "off the turf." We imagine that his trainer will decide to scratch him. We did get a report on Monday of a good workout for our two-year-old colt, Backslider, at Keeneland.
