Second Grade

I started in public school, at the Ortega Elementary School in Jacksonville, Florida, in the second grade, when I was six years old. The cliques had been formed in first grade. At my first recess, one of the boys called out for the boys on his side to come over to him. Then another boy called out for the boys on his side to come over to him. That left me.
