J-E-T-S

As a friend pointed out, yesterday was the third palindrome day this month (01-22-10). I dined for the first time at Marea-- a leisurely lunch with two friends who very kindly hosted me. Marea is a fine new Italian seafood restaurant with elegant, modern decor. Last night, Susan and I were guests at the Metropolitan Opera's opening-night production of Verdi's Boccanegra, with Placido Domingo singing the lead as a baritone. (Before I could dress for the evening, I had to make an emergency run to my tailor to have my Tuxedo trousers let out.)

Tonight, Susan is cooking-- including fresh foie gras-- at home for us and a few other couples. Before dinner, we will taste a few grower Champagnes of contrasting styles.

Tomorrow, the underdog New York Jets football team will play the Indianapolis Colts for the American Football League Championship, the winner of which will advance to the Super Bowl. Even die-hard New York Football Giants fans like me have jumped on the bandwagon and will be taping their ankles for tomorrow's game! After the game, Susan and I are looking forward to dinner with friends-- true opera buffs-- whom we haven't seen for about a year, at their home, with the hostess doing the cooking. Go Jets!
