01 11 10

Happy palindrome day!  By the way, I just learned on Google that January 2 (01 02 2010) was another.

On Wednesday, Susan and I will be off to Jupiter, Florida. South Florida's record cold weather is forecast to give way that day to a more seasonable high of 65 degrees. We will stay on the oceanfront and visit some friends and horses. By now, the horses in Florida must all have grown winter coats, and the snowbirds must wish that they had migrated south with their winter coats. If there is a prolonged warm spell, the Florida horsemen will have the laborious task of clipping the horses' coats. Then the horsemen will begin watching the Florida weather forecasts in dread of a resumption of cold weather.

Before we return to New York late on January 20, I want to play some golf. It has been almost a year since I last played, and, until recently, I thought that I could never play again. Nonetheless, we have kept our membership in a golf club in Tequesta, Florida, and I am getting stronger and more flexible every day. Why not give golf a try? My level of play can't get much worse than it always was, and now I have a great excuse. Not that I can expect mercy from Susan on the golf course: Once I hit my ball in a bunker near an alligator, and Susan made me play it as it lay! (She has always maintained that the alligator wasn't big enough to warrant a free drop and that, in any case, she was keeping an eye on it for me while I addressed the ball.)
