Oatmeal and Oysters
My blood counts were high enough to receive chemotherapy today. Moreover, my red blood cell count was close to normal. As a result, I will not have to be infused with iron sucrose during this chemotherapy cycle. Presumably, the improvement in my anemia is primarily owing to the efficacy of the chemotherapy. But I have also been assiduously incorporating iron-rich foods in my diet, especially oatmeal and shellfish. It was a pleasant surprise to learn that the folks at MSK do not object to patients eating raw food, including clams and oysters. They also do not object to patients drinking wine, and I find that sauvignon blanc still tastes like to me like sauvignon blanc and still works well with oysters. (I've never tried sauvignon blanc with oatmeal.)
